Ian Mchenrey had a big night with 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) as the Peoria Mustangs crushed the Evansville Jr. Thunderbolts 7-2 in a home game at Owens Center in Peoria. Also, the Peoria Mustangs' offense had a big night, peppering Evansville with 48 shots throughout the game. The Peoria Mustangs took the lead before the halfway point in the first on a goal from Braden Stewart and never looked back.
Braden Stewart did his part, adding 2 goals and Jack Radley chipped in with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist).
In the first period, Layne opened the scoring for the Mustangs with a goal at 2:59 with a helper from his teammate Mchenrey. Mchenrey deposited a goal at 12:19 with assists from Layne and Mcdonald. Stewart netted what turned out to be the game winning goal at 14:37 with helpers from Mcdonald and Mchenrey.
During the second, Zahoran finally put the Jr. Thunderbolts on the board with a goal at 9:21 with an assist from Scott . Mchenrey answered for Peoria with a goal at 16:35 with a helper from defenseman Ulrich. Radley scored a goal at 20:00 with an assist from defenseman Finley.
In the third, Straker netted a goal at 2:07 with a helper from defenseman Zowin. Mcelroy answered for the Jr. Thunderbolts with a goal at 8:42 with assists from Heppner and Hughes. Stewart answered for Peoria with a goal at 14:40 with helpers from Radley and Finley.
The Mustangs’ victory was in no doubt helped out by Freiburger as he stopped 20 of the 22 shots he faced. Freiburger’s counterpart, Linenburg, also had a big night, managing to stop 30 of 36, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Peoria Mustangs’ record to (9-5-0-0).
