Mustangs Sweep Wausau At Home; Break for Thanksgiving

MUSTANGS SWEEP WEEKEND SERIES VS. WAUSAU

PEORIA, IL – The Peoria Mustangs welcomed the Wausau RiverWolves into town this past weekend for the second home series of the 2020-21 campaign for the Mustangs. Their first home series was a series split at the very beginning of the season against Milwaukee.

GAME 1 (11/20/20) – After a strong showing against Rochester by handing the Grizzlies their first loss of the season, the Mustangs were determined to keep momentum on their side. A significant bonus for the Mustangs squad would be the return to the Owens Center after a long break in action at their home rink. The young core of Mustangs came to play with Hubert Guzy, Christopher Kondiles and Ethan Chesney all contributing with a goal and an assist. Max Morris would make his scoring debut for the Mustangs by adding a goal early in the first period. Goalie Cole Walter once again flexed his muscles in goal by posting a 12 save shutout and claiming his third career shutout. The Mustangs would take the first game of the series 4-0.

GAME 2 (11/21/20) – After laying a goose egg in the first game, Wausau was determined to leave Peoria with a few pucks in the net. But the Mustangs wanted to continue their dominance on offense before Wausau would have a say. Rickey Jones and and Ethan Chesney would both add early goals with Connor Bennett cashing in on assists for both scores. The RiverWolves quickly rebounded by adding 2 late goals in the 1st which resulted in a 2-2 tie at the conclusion of the first period. After that, the Mustangs would establish control of the game with Ibrahim Arifi, Rickey Jones, Quinn Murphy and Christopher Kondiles finding the back of the net all in the second period. After adding two assists earlier in the contest, Connor Bennett would find the back of the net on his own in the third period. The Mustangs would come away a big winner with a 7-3 victory over the RiverWolves and giving them the weekend sweep.

STAYING HOME FOR THANKSGIVING BREAK

The Mustangs will break this week for the Thanksgiving holiday with no games taking place this weekend. The weekly coaches show for the Mustangs, Around the Stable will also be on break this week in observance of the holiday. On behalf of the entire Mustangs organization, we wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. Please be safe and stay at home during this unusual time.

The Mustangs will return to action on December 4th as they will travel to Mequon, WI to clash with the Milwaukee Power in a weekend series.
