GAME PREVIEW: PEORIA MUSTANGS AT OREGON TRADESMEN
The Peoria Mustangs (1-1) will embark on the first road trip of the young 2020-21 season as they square off the newest face in the NA3HL and the Central Division, the Oregon Tradesmen (2-1).
FIRST WEEKEND OF HOCKEY IS IN THE BOOKS:
The Mustangs are coming off their first series of the new season with a series split against the Milwaukee Power. The Mustangs claimed their first victory of the season on October 9, 2020 with a decisive 6-1 win at the Owens Center. A mixture of veteran and newcomer effort paced the Mustangs as veterans Quinn Murphy (1 goal) and Jaycob Bland (1 goal) contributed to the scoring while newcomers Ethan Chesney (2 goals, 1 assist), Jackson Gram (1 goal, 1 assist) and Ibrahim Arifi (1 goal) tallied their first NA3HL points.
On the October 10th game, the Power revived their offense to create a back-and-forth contest that eventually led to a shootout. The Power’s Trey Bess proved to be a force on special teams scoring 2 shorthanded goals in the game. For the Mustangs, Connor Bennett and George Giese scored their first goals of the year along with Jaycob Bland tallying one goal. Tyler Nelson’s shootout goal for the Power proved to be the difference maker and the game winner as the Power left Peoria with a 4-3 SO win.
A LOOK AT OREGON:
The newly formed Tradesmen play at Oregon Ice Arena in Oregon, WI, the former home of the Wisconsin Whalers. The Whalers now play in Wyoming. The Tradesmen are helmed by Janesville Jets (NAHL) owner, Madison Hockey Partners, LLC. Additionally, the Tradesmen are a revival of the Evansville Jr. Thunderbolts after the Thunderbolts folded in 2018-19 after an 0-47 season. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Tradesmen are playing their games at the Janesville Ice Arena for the 2020-21 season.
